Kinmen County Magistrate Wo-Shi Lee, Kinmen County Health Bureau Director Tien-Shun Chen, Confidential Secretary Jung-Chiang Yang, Health Bureau Medical Administrative Division Head Su-Tzu Shiue and National Kinmen Institute of Technology President Chin-Cheng Lee, accompanied by NCKU Hospital Superintendent Pin-Wen Lin and NCKU Alumni Association Center Director Shih-Yu Hsiao, visited NCKU President Michael-Ming-Chiao Lai on March 8th to discuss matters related to Kinmen medical resources and future medical cooperation.

Kinmen County Magistrate Wo-Shi Lee, Kinmen County Health Bureau Director Tien-Shun Chen, Confidential Secretary Jung-Chiang Yang, Health Bureau Medical Administrative Division Head Su-Tzu Shiue and National Kinmen Institute of Technology President Chin-Cheng Lee, accompanied by NCKU Hospital Superintendent Pin-Wen Lin and NCKU Alumni Association Center Director Shih-Yu Hsiao, visited NCKU President Michael-Ming-Chiao Lai on March 8th to discuss matters related to Kinmen medical resources and future medical cooperation.

Magistrate Wo-Shi Lee, a graduate of NCKU, expected National Cheng Kung University Hospital to assist the health care system and establish a hospital branch in Kinmen. He said, "Kinmen Hospital has been operating for 3 years and has made medical improvements, but there is still room for progress. If NCKU can establish a branch in Kinmen to further enhance its medical treatment, the county government will fully support and cooperate. This is the reason I am here today, delivering this idea to President Lai and inviting NCKU to establish a branch in Kinmen."

For the mutual medical cooperation, Magistrate Wo-Shi Lee suggested three conditions, the front support of specialists, the commitment to the Integrated Delivery System (IDS) in Kinmen area project, and the participation in the construction of "Kinmen County Comprehensive Medical Building." He anticipated NCKU to begin with these three conditions, and then establish its branch in Kinmen. The development goal is to make Kinmen an island of medical treatment and good health.

Magistrate Wo-Shi Lee also explained, because Kinmen County is a remote island, physicians are difficult to find and they often stay for a while. "Even though there are IDS specialists on duty, we still lack doctors from the departments of chest medicine, otolaryngology, rheumatoid immunology, endocrinology and metabolism to provide 1 to 2 times weekly outpatient service."

Furthermore, the three-year IDS cooperation project between Kinmen County and Taipei Veterans General Hospital will expire at the end of 2010. Magistrate Lee hoped NCKU will consider participating in the IDS project and the construction of "Kinmen County Comprehensive Medical Building," which is expected to complete at the end of 2012.

In response to his anticipation, President Lai instructed NCKU Hospital Superintendent Pin-Wen Lin to assess the possibility of cooperation and expressed his joy in developing a more intimate relationship with Kinmen County Government.
